WANTED: V8 911 project

Okay, stop laughing, but seriously, we have a client that wants to do one the right way (that actually makes turns and stops, not just go) We are looking for the right project , preferably pre 73 (that dreaded smog thing) Completed cars may be considered ,depending on build quality and price
Thanks!

Have you contacted Scott Mann at Renegade hybrids www.renegadehybrids.com
or Rod Simpson racing?
That is where I would start looking. They have contacts all over the place.

There is also a web board for conversions, it is a yahoo board called porschev if I remember correctly. Great place to post this question. Good luck.

Is it sacrilege when one puts a 911 motor in a Corvair? Or a VW? or is it sacrilege when an empty 911T shell gets resurected from the graveyard with these weirdo installs? Will the finished product do everything as great or better than Ferry engineered it? Never! But what the heck; we all hot rod something, why not a Porsche?

The only 'right way' to do this is motor in front - wheelie bars in back. -- Curt

what is your $$$$ range? I think that you will find that the pre-73 cars are hard to find because they are usually restored with a porsche engine.
You will find it easier to get a 74-77 because of the 2.7 You will run into a bunch of crap though, because most people that do a good conversion will want to keep there cars and the ones that are selling them are doing so for a reason(because they suck!).

check with Rod or Scott as mentioned above

Spoke with Rod Simpson for a while and got the numbers on converting one. To do one the right way, it looks like the client can buy a 930 turbo with low miles and some upgrades. But it turns out the client already has a blower equipped race V8 sitting in the garage. A 914 would be a better bet to install that monster engine. Can't see butchering the back window and frame on the 911 to accomodate a 6:71 with attendant scoop. Big Daddy Roth rides again?! Can Am lives in a 914? Stay tuned, this is getting strange and expensive. so far it is a jaw exercise, no $$ crossed the table yet.

What type of blower are you talking about? 671?
you are waisting time on that one. belt will not fit cooling won't work. transmissions will not work and even a 930 or G50 will not work because the clutch will not hold the torque and even if you do the trans will not hold up. you would have to do what gene burda did and use a turbo 400 tornado transaxle and mid engine it (he has a chevy big block mid engine style).

WOW can I run anymore sentences together?

run away!!!!!!!!!!

It should be a lot easier to drop that V8 into a 928 than a 914 & the tranny can handle the power.

TRE - some time ago I did a work up on a 914 with a midship roots blown SBC. Nomatter what I looked at the car wouldn't handle it. The torque should tear it in half first time you stepped on it hard. There is a fellow that twin supercharged a white 914 with a home-made 930 looking body kit. Very exotic and very expensive.

There's a trick to making the running gear live with v8 power, short strokeand long duration cam. Kill as much torque as possible, move the peak torque and hp up the RPM range. The running gear is mated up and playing well together before it gets clobbered by all hps. It would surprize you how long the P-running gear can live with a bunch more power running through it than it was designed to handle.....

Here's an early car sans motor:

db:

LeeH came across this engine-less '71T Coupe on eBay in another thread:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1834168985&r=0&t=0

Fresh paint and it looks like most of the good parts are there . . . except a motor!

Good luck on the project!

Best,

Kurt
