Engine Number help please 1976 2.7

Hi,
I am selling my 1976 911 2.7 Targa and trying to verify the engine is original to the car. I have had the car for over fifteen years and was told it was the original engine but I want to make sure as the number sequence looks like it might be a 75. I saw another 1976 engine for sale recently that also had a engine number starting with 655. Please help.
Thanks

The engine number is 6551523.
The vin number is 9116211108.

Yep, it's a 1976, 2.7L, US, Targa; just like mine (only 500 cars earlier).

Thanks Howard just wanted to be sure. Do you or anyone else know where I could verify this to show a buyer.

My comments refer to the VIN number. Both the engine number and VIN provenance can be decoded by doing a search on the internet or this web site

Porsche 911 Fahrzeugidentifikation

The only way to verify that specific engine came in that specific chassis is to get a COA from PCNA. Otherwise, use the website to verify the correct engine type for the year. The VIN decoder will tell you year and model as you have been told above.

The paint code number will provide whether it is the original color.

Engine Number help please 1976 2.7

I've got a very late '75 with 6551695. Check your motor type, which is on the block just forward of the serial number. For instance, mine is 911/44, which indicates that it is a '75 motor.

I am still having a bit of trouble figuring this out. Does anyone know if any 1976 Targas were shipped with motor numbers beginning with 655? Additionally the case is stamped 911/44. Please help.

2.7 engine code location

Could someone please be a bit more definitive on the location of the engine code? I have the engine serial no. Thanks, John
The 2.7's are neat cars after having a number of later 911's.
