Hour labor estimate for tranny replacement on 996
Folks what would the hour duration of the effort be to drop an engine, replace a tranny and reinstall engine in a 2002 996?
An indy shop tells me we're looking at about 20 hours work. |

On a 3.2 Carrera with a G50, I can drop the engine, swap out the transmission, replace the engine into the car in about 8 hours if nothing else goes wrong, or breaks, or ...
So, for a 996 with twice the complexity, I would guess it to be 16 hours. 20 hours for this job is within the realm of possibility.

For a straight forward gearbox swap no clutch/ims upgrade 4 hours tops....most likely 2-3.

I talked to a local used-car dealer a few months ago who had a 996 on the lot that he had to have the 6-speed R&R'd and then have some gears and synchros replaced. He said that he paid for 6 hours of labor for the R&R and they left the engine in the car.
