After examining this engine, I discovered that the crankshaft was cut to an English undercut (0.010" under, which is not a metric size), probably from a shop that doesn't know anything about Porsches. Not sure if that contributed to the failure, but if a gross mistake like that was made, I'm sure the rest of the engine was crap.
The only thing semi-salvageable from this engine was the updated idler arms... -Wayne
