Montreal F1 Race - TV Coverage

Can't find the thread from someone who asked the other day, but I just saw in the TV guide that the Montreal F1 race is being broadcast on ABC at 12:30 this afternoon here on the East Coast.

The local idiots in Charlotte are showing "Inside Edition" instead of F1. Did I say Idiots, I'm sure I did.

Outstanding coverage.. I'm amazed. Plenty of in-car radio, with a good f$ck from McNish thrown in for good measure.. something you don't get on Speedvision. Plus none of that idiot Rick Devrewl whining on and on.

That was good coverage! It made it appear like non-stop action by constantly picking up battles thru-out the field. I didn't get a chance to see ABC's Monaco coverage. Apparently, ABC is getting the 'good' feed from Bernie. -- Curt

We had nice coverage up here in Canada. Johnny Herbet was the race colour man plus they had radio communication on various cars.

All we need to do is swap the sweeping "eewwwwwwwww" Vic with Dave Randorf!

In Charlotte, no NASCAR competition allowed?

It appears you are right Paul. Fox Sports was broadcasting some Nascar race live, guess the local ABC affiliate didn't want to give the locals culture outside of NASCAR. Instead they broadcast Inside Edition and a local special interest(?) about a hospital two counties away...go figure

Great camera coverage on ABC, but the announcers sounded like they were calling a horse race. Non-stop over-excited jabbering. Oh, Montreal sure looks like a beautiful venue...

"Non-stop over-excited jabbering. "

True. But somehow they were able to keep up with the action. By contrast, how many times have we heard Bob Varsha on Speedvision say, "somebody's off!! It looks like Trulli! No, it's Irvine! Well, it looks like a blue car. Oops, no we're back to the leader. We're getting our feed from TV Brazil folks ..... "

I was there guys.

Right at the Senna turn, great seats : I could see the second half of the chicane at the beginning of the start/finnish straight, the straight itself, turn 1 plus the Sennar turn.
Came early, had lunch and a few brews with the buddies int eh stands, had a great time.
Missed the TV coverage, though. And the city is very nice. We're having the rennlist east-coast ramble on the outskirts of town last weekend of July. All welcome.

Cheers.

I agree that the coverage was very good and quite an improvement from 2 weeks ago in Monaco.

Maybe I missed something during the first 7 races of the year, but this one sure seemed to have lots of on track action and passing.

BTW, what's everyone think of the Red Bull F1 driver search effort being headed by Danny Sullivan?

total publicity stunt. I couldn't figure out if I was watching a Red Bull commercial or live ABC TV.

It has been a long time since I was in broadcasting, but it would seem ABC lost big time on this. I taped and watched the whole thing. I could hardly believe the lack of commercials. It was about a quarter of the time SpeedXXX has for endless BMW or Lexus time. Bet you, we won't see this again.
