Weber accelerator pump leaking, any quick fix?
Hi All,
I have a 1965 911 but it has a '68 911 engine with Weber carburators. They work great and were rebuilt about five years ago, but both accelerator pumps are leaking badly now, with a drip every 10 seconds or so from each one. Where I live there is no good source of parts and I must get them mailed to me or get them on my trips back to Paris. I'm going to Paris in about a month and will get a rebuild kit then, but is there anything I can do to reduce the leak now? I'd like to drive my car now as this is some good weather in Antananarivo but am afraid of an engine fire! Thanks for any help. |

Thanks Chris for the info. I have a good source in Paris but mailing things to Madagascar takes up to a month and you *usually* get your package unopened.
Could I just disassemble it and use some gasket maker on the edge of the accelerator pump cover? Or is that just asking for trouble? |

Depends if the housing covers are warped.....thicker hand cut gaskets may work. Not like it will cost much to try. Just be careful when "firing" it back up.

Most likely new gaskets will not fix the leaking, all pump covers I have seen (300+) are warped from having the nuts tightened and even the reinforced covers warp...all are made from die cast zinc. Best approach is to flatten the top covers by sanding against a flat surface; this is made easier if the cross pin is removed (press it out) to remove the pump lever arm assembly.
