Need Header Advice / 80 911

Hello All,

I have a 80 911SC 3.0 Euro version w/Weber PMO's and SSI's w/a Dansk SS Sport Exhaust. I want something with a lot more sound and some more flow as the current setup is just too quiet. Even my wife can't stand the current silence.

Can anyone recommend a good header, preferably in SS and an exhaust as I may put one on ? I had an M&K (one out) on my 87 but even that was too demure for my (our) taste in timber.

I was told that I should keep the SSI's on the car and just fabricate something to fit the SSI's and have a single outlet. A friend of mine thinks I should remove the SSI's and fabricate headers as the SSI's are not equal in length and are not a true header.

I am not a mechanic but I know what I want, I am just not sure of the best way forward. Can you guys please give me some advice as I am ready to pull the trigger but not sure of where to shoot.

Cheers !

A lot of the pop in exhaust comes from compression. You have 8.6:1. That will not create a genuine robust sound. You may be able to make it louder but without the 81 forward Euro pistons (heads?) you will fall short of your objective.

Talk to RarlyL8, custom made SS 1.62" equal length headers.. if the SSI's are in VG condition you should be able to sell them for about 1/2 of the new header cost.

If you must keep the single out location we have a motorsport version of the dual in single out muffler. The internals are 3" and make for an agressive sound. Tuned headers will get you about 10HP as they open up the top end.

Just put a 3.6 in it...

BTW - did you have your MK on the 87 with a dual in - or single in? Big difference in sound -

I had this too on my 1987 Cabriolet it was louder than my current car
Magnaflow Custom muffler made for SSi's and Dual outlets.

Here are 993 HE and a MK single out - first generation...
