Fog Light switch pin out
Hi gang,
Question for the brain trust. The previous owner in my 1975 S installed Front fog lights in the vehicle. The lights work fine. I would like to replace the crummy looking aftermarket rocker switch located under the dash with the OEM part pictured below. I have verified that pin number 1 and 3 are used to close an open the circuit for the function of the fog light. I suspect the switch was designed that when the fog lights were on the knob illuminates, and when the headlights are on the switch is also illuminated, in fact if I remember my 83 cab correctly, there was a difference between the illumination of the switch when the headlights were all on and when the headlights were on and the fog light was on. Can anyone tell me the function contact number 2 and contact number 4 on the switch pictured below. As you will notice there seems to be a ground in the center of the back in the switch, which I am sure is used for the light bulb in the switch By the way I happen to have an extra of the same fog light switch which which I will be putting up for sale in the parts section if anybody's interested Thanks ![]() ![]()

All the wiring diagrams that I have available to me show different designations for the terminal numbers, rather than a simple 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. The have designations such as 15, 31, 58, and I. For what it's worth, the brown wire (ground from cigarette lighter common) shows as term #31, and the green wire (12V switched from fuse#7 aka license plate light... no doubt for the dash lamp) shows as term #15. 12V from whichever source it's derived from (dependent upon which year model car) comes in to term #58 on a Bl-Bk wire, and lastly the Bl-Wh from term #I is the switched lead that goes to the winding of the fog lamp relay.
The schematic depicts a switch that is both push-pull and twist-turn... possibly for front and rear fog lights??? I don't know. From this info, you should be able to divine which wire goes where. The indicator lamp should show a short between the ground and one of the other pins... pretty easy to detect with a volt-ohmmeter, and you can always jumper a battery source to see if the lamp lights. Good luck, sorry I couldn't be more help. Don~ |
