How to secure "lip-less" battery???
The battery in my car that the P.O. bought doesn't have those retaining 'lips' on the sides on the bottom that slip underneath the retaining clips on my battery floor. The battery hold kits I've seen at the autoparts stores don't seem like they'll work... Anyone have a nice clean solution for me to keep this battery from moving around? I'm sick of stuffing towels around my battery at autocrosses!

Adam--
the hold down kits will work, though you might have to do some slight alterations depending upon the size battery you have. there was a thread on this a few months back and (I think) Chuck Moreland posted some good pix - I will try and find them. I went to my local pep boys and bought a ton of stuff, since I wasn't sure what would fit and work. what I ended up with was a battery try, held down by the porsche hold downs. then I used the long threaded rods (10") on either side of the battery and tied them together with the rubber tie down across the battery. I then returned all my unused stuff. the fit was kind of tight, but its in there very snug now - I'll probably take it apart to put a battery mat down under the battery to neutralize any subsequent acid spills. go here and here and here too

Adam,
I have an idea, but I don't know if I can translate into writing. I'll try. Get a piece of metal the size of the normal batteries with ears, but a little bit wider. Drill holes on the outside, and use one of those universal battery hold down kits from an auto parts store. So the piece of metal will stick in the flanges, and the battery will be secured to the plate. I hope that makes sense. |

Here is the old thread
Battery tie-down for aftermarket battery? Hey Adam, when are you gonna post the follow up to the 911 tune? Maybe it'll be called 964.
