From Race to Road...

So i just bought this beast, and i am putting together a race-street grocery list so i can get in on the road...

@ It has a 2.7L and Headers. I need heat. Does anyone have any heat recommendations?

@ Also, it has 79 930 Wheels, and i am looking to see if anyone knows a good snow tire combo that works well...

I also have a set of 15" rims, would those be better?

Fellow Southcentral Porsche Owner

I was wondering if that car was going sell. I don't know anything about about it, but read the advertisement several times when I was looking for a 911. Looks like you have a fun project ahead of you. The car looks a lot better in your photo than the ones it was advertised with.

I don't know anything about snow tires on a 911, but my understanding is that the light front end makes stopping and steering on ice difficult.

Can the original heating system be put back into place? I'm not sure if you could install a separate heating system (space heater in the back seat)?

Best of luck, I'll look for you on the street next spring.

SSI heat exchangers do the job VERY nicely.

Look at Nokian snow tires in 16" sizes as there is nothing better for those purposes.

Some people with headers have messed around with VW gas heaters installed in the smugglers box, but I would be worried about catching my 911 on fire....

Backdate to SSI heat exchangers??

Snow car...my .02 cents

I drive my 74 911 year round. I have an extra set of rims with Blizzaks...205 55 16 and my car does fine in the snow. I live at 8100 ft and drive up to my local ski area which is at 10,500 no problem. Any soft compound quality winter tire will do fine...studs are even better. Kicking the rear out on turns on snowy roads is an absolute gas. I think that knowing how are cars perform in the snow makes us better hard surface drivers. Makes me understand why those drivers in Europe years ago loved the winter rallies.

I have a set of 15" Fuchs as well, i'm thinking about putting on Nokian Studded 195-60-15s It wont be quite as sexy but the PSI loading will be excellent.

Yea, i'm reluctant to backdate the header work, I'm instead considering an electric AUX heater, they are about $250, i'm just not familiar with how well they work.

yea there are only a few electric heaters on the market and they are expensive! but they do work well. Mojave is the biggest name on the market. I too have been looking around for my 914

if you know how to weld you could fab heater boxes over part of the headers. If you can find used SSIs you might be able to buy them and sell the headers to offset the cost, and you wouldnt be out of pocket too much. Or there is always new SSIs if you have the money.

Good solution:

Gas heater installation

BTW: There is no single issue about fire known since Eberspächer made them...

I think i'm going electric... I will report back on the success of it.

USA Made 12 Volt Ducted Electric Heater Draws 40-Amps...

ON to the next Issue(s), Headlights (need new ones), Winshield Wiper, and Turn signals... I don't have the OE electrical stuff for this so i'm considering quality after market stuff, any ideas?

Wow you have work cut out for you, I bought this car and after a close inspection I quickly found it wouldn't be worth the time to bring it back to stock. So I finished bolting it back togather with the roll cage bought from this forum as well as most the other race parts.

Get ahold of AKporsche from this forum I think he still has a 74 parts car that may have give you the hundreds of small pieces this car is missing.

The wheels that came with the car came off of one of Akporsches cars and they are repros.

I ran this car with 15x7s and they worked very well with track tires, I raced this car a few times and sold it to another board member who then took the trans and a few other parts and sold it a year ago. There is alot of parts laying around up here in the north.

I will be back up this way after jan 15th and may have some stuff you could use.

Have fun with it,

Cheers Ed

Here is what the car looked when I bought the car, it was torn completely apart by the previous owners also members of this forum. this car was a father son project that never got finished. When I got the car I layed it all out to get the feel of whats there and made the choice to just leave it a race car.
