Wire from Ceiling

Hi, I have a hole and a grey wire hanging down from the front window. Any ideas what 'should' be there... I do have a rear view mirror mounted to the glass down below the picture(not sure if that setup is stock?), so it doesn't seem like it would be for a rear view mirror... It's also not the clip for the sun visor, that's over to either the left or the right... any ideas?

Any ideas on the above Pict?

Thanks!

J

That is the electrics for the nipple that hangs down for inside temperature and controls the box between the seats that pulls the lever for heat.

Oh... that would explain why when I turn the heat on even to just position 1, the lever lifts all the way up... I actually still have that nipple, found it on the floor but didn't know what it was for... I guess I just need to buy the base for it...

Thanks!

Actually it is stock. My car had one too but mine is missing. Those things are worth their weight in gold because everyone is missing theirs.

J.

It is indeed the Auto Heat sensor with was later moved to the dash
due to breakage(s) when adjusting the sun visors.

Here are a few pics:

^early 911

^ 3.2 Model year

The sensor part (911.659.105.01), and harness (911.612.50.00) have been NLA for many years, but here's the CKT.

Good luck,

Gerry

It's hard to tell from the pic, but there is a thermistor (I think that's the right term) that sits inside the rubber nipple. Make sure it's there and plugs in securely. You also might want to use a DVM to check the resistance on it to make sure it's within spec before you button it up. If you search on auto-heat troubleshooting you'll find a thread with the specs.

So now I'm trying to locate an interior temp sensor rosette for th 1980 911. As mentioned above, it is a small, rectangular, plastic piece with a central hole flanked by 2 screw holes. It is mounted up between the sun visors & helps to hold the sensor for "climate control" device in place. Part number is 911 571 235 01. I've been told it is NLA so here I am..... If any of you might have one please let me know.

Really appreciated!
thanks

You might want to post a WTB (want to buy) in the used parts classifieds. Someone parting out a car may have one.

This will be a hard-to-find part.

Having the sensor in hand, you could make something up.

Try member andrew15, he's up in Canada.

good luck,

Gerry
