Textar pads need anti squeal glue
Hi, it will be the first time I will change my brake pads. Thanks to Wayne's book!
I will install standard Textar pads on my 911 3.2 I was wondering if I need to buy anti squeal glue separately, or is it already on the pads? |

No there are no anti-squeel pads on the Textars.
You must insure the pistons are facing the proper 20 degree angle, to insure against squeeling and more importantly proper braking. I went from Mintex to Textars after fading affects at a Auto Cross. It braked better but it developed a squeel after checking all components. It may be only isolated to me but I moved on to the EBC ceramics and gain better braking and no more squeels. Bonus dust was drastically reduced. My 2 cents, Jim

I thinks he´s referring to the copper grease you smear on the back of the pads before inserting thenm into the calipers. No it doesnt come with the pads you have to buy it seperately

As I recall the extra anti-squeel pads retain heat. I may be wrong here.
+1 definitely use anti sieze on moving contact points i.e. the sides, retaining springs/clips where the pads will move back and forth as well. Heck you may get lucky and may not have a squeel but you will not know that until it used. sorry. j

Thanks Twistoffat. It is the grease or glue I was referring to. I had my doubts about this article:
Pelican Technical Article: 911 Brake Pad Replacement "11. Do not use the anti-squeal compound pad from your Friendly Local Auto Parts Store on the back of the brake pads. This stuff turns to glue, and when you need to replace the brake pads again, it will destroy the caliper dust boot when you pull the pads out (don’t ask how I know this). Many new brake pads come with an anti-squeal coating already applied. It looks like a thicker coat of paint on the back of the pads. If you want to use something more I recommend a LIGHT coat of Lubro-Moly Hi-Tack Lube Spray. Be careful not to get this stuff on the braking surface of the pads, or on the rotors. (Figure 11)" |
