Porsche Crest 2.2 v. 2.4

Hey Chris--

When I think about this kind of stuff, I think "Classification." Let's see here. . .

PCA CLASS I
---------------

'70-71 911T 2249# 125HP 17.99 lb/hp (2.2)
'72-73 911T 2310# 130HP 17.77 lb/hp (2.4)

Advantage: 2.4, which has more torque anyway.

Dick Strahota turned a 1.04.8 at Lime Rock in our club race. I think he's running a '73 911T?

But. . . it depends on the cams and the induction. . .

PCA Class G
---------------

'72-73 911E 2365# 165HP 14.33 lb/hp (2.4)
'70-71 911S 2249# 180HP 12.49 lb/hp (2.2)

Advantage: 2.2, if you keep the revs up.

Having said the above, I am rapidly learning that the folks that you would consider to be at a disadvantage due to weight generally have bigger tires: I got STOMPED in the club race by a 1975 911S, which checks in at 2425#, 167 HP, 14.52 lb/hp, which is almost equal to my '71 911E at 2249#, 155 HP, 14.51 lb/hp, except that the later car RUNS BIGGER TIRES! Also, everybody is a better driver (for now!) but in my view the extra weight doesn't make that much of a difference. By the way, if you wanted to build a car for PCA Class G, I would recommend an SC-- the tires and suspension make them the class favorites.

Hope this helps in your decisionmaking-- I only know about PCA, when you get into HSR and other venues, the rules are different (guys run GT-style cars with 2.5's!)
