Lost Connection to Forum - HELP?

Sorry to post this on this forum but was at a loss where to post it. When accessing the forum through my internet cable provider the connection times out but when using my Verizon hot spot and other public wifi sites I have no problem. The weird thing is the Pelican 911 forum is the only site I've identified that I cannot connect to?

Some details - I am using a cable modem with a D-Link router and have used multiple devices and browsers with no success.

Try refreshing on this site

Try hitting the CTRL key and F5 key at the same time while your browser is open on this site.

If that doesn't work... let us know. It is possible the site has been blocked within your own software somehow.

For MS Explorer

1. First go the "Tools" and then go to the "Internet options"
2. After that go to the "Security" tab.
3. There you will find a box of name "Restricted sites". So, just click on that.
4. There you can put the web address of any sites that you want to block or remove an address you want to unblock.

The CTRL/F5 did nothing. I also checked the restricted sites and it was empty.

Thanks for the ideas and keep 'em coming. In the meantime I guess I will have to use my hot spot or the local starbucks.

Try changing your DNS entry to to 8.8.8.8 . It's possible (probable) that it's a lookup issue.

If you can connect to other Pelican BBS and parts sites then it's not your local computer.

I believe that Pelican has it's own servers for the BBS part of the site which are slow at times.

Who is you ISP and what upload and download speeds do you have?

If you have not been having trouble with accessing other sites via your browser I would not recommend changing things. You may mess other things up.

My ISP is Cox Cable and upload speeds are fast and since moving from DSL are much faster than they used to be. Weird thing is I can access all the other sectons of the Pelican site?

Yeah, the forums are on a different server. Do you know how to use nslookup?

Start ->Run->cmd
nslookup
Default Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.0.1

> pelicanparts.com
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: pelicanparts.com
Address: 216.2.93.165

> forums.pelicanparts.com
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: forums.pelicanparts.com
Addresses: 108.162.195.78
108.162.195.178

If you don't get the same answers as above, type:
server 8.8.8.8

pelicanparts.com and then forums.pelicanparts.com

If you get a different answer using the 8.8.8.8 server, then it's a DNS problem which would be fixed by using the google public dns server, 8.8.8.8

So, the message you left above was done via Verizon?

There is a way that the host can "blacklist" your IP however, normally that would be for the whole site and not just part of it.

You have tired accessing the site using more that 1 browser and get the same results?

I have very intermittent accessibility to the pelican forums from home. The pelican store works great. The problem persists across multiple computers in my home, but not from my workplace (hush-hush).

It is quite frustrating, as I often to have attempt to open a thread 10+ times before it opens. No other websites have any issues. Very odd...

All browsers have the same issue - IE, Firefox and Safari? I was wondering about blacklisting the IP but why?

For the nslookup option what do I do if I am using a Mac?

I was having a similar problem with IE for a while, especially if I went to ebay motors, I would lose connectivity to Pelican.... clearing my cookies solved it.

Security programs like ZoneAlarm and Norton are known to cause these problems as well. If clearing your history/cookies, restarting doesn't fix it check your security programs for accidentally blocked sites.

There are many security programs out there... check your windows control panel install/uninstall program panel to review your security program list. These programs are often loaded without your knowledge by piggybacking on other installations.

As others mentioned above, try changing the DNS settings in your router just for S & G's. I had a similar issue with another tecnical forum and this fixed it.

Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4

You'll log-in to your router and make the changes there. Your router and cable "modem" may be one in the same.

Edit: Oops...just re-read your post re: DLink router. Make changes there.

Ping and Nslookup with Mac OS X

If you need to change the DNS entry, in this case you would change it in the router. It's also possible (likely) that if the problem is resolution related that it will "fix" itself when some cache timer expires in some DNS server somewhere out in the ether expires. This sort of thing happens way too often.

No luck. Tried setting my DNS via IPv6 but was unsuccessful and could not find another way on my D-Link router to change my DNS. I did update my firmware on mr DIR-825 router but it did not help. Any other ideas?

Quick read...

Just to eliminate this possibility... here's a quick read. I see cox cable is providing this to their customers. Thought it might be a possibility.

I ended up using one of the proxy sites designed to bypass router security [anonamouse]. This worked fine other than having to log on each time. At least I can now get onto Pelican from home.

Never did figure out how to change the DNS settings?

Chrome for me too, is agonizingly slow. I went back to IE for this site. A little better, but not much.
