Krylon - Stained Glass Paint - DIY project
Does anybody have an experience with Krylon paint? I plan to paint my fog light lenses with amber and I came up with Krylon Stained Glass paint from most car club forums. It says it requires several coatings to achieve desired amber color as the one available is yellow. TIA

I installed yellow LED's in my fog lights.... not as bright as the regular H-4's bulbs, but I like it.
It's as bright as my parking lights. |

Given the time of year, temperature will impact the flow of paint. Warm up the paint can under water and paint in at least +60 degrees. Put the lenses on a board and carry them inside between coats if your garage is not heated well.
I have never used the paint, though. If it is recommended in more than one place it ought to be fine.

Ive used that stuff a ton of times.
Multiple light misting coats like with any other spray painting project.

I used stained glass paint on my '67 tail lights. It worked great. This was about 20 years ago and went looking for the paint again and could not find it. The car has since been totaled so can't speak to how well it holds up.
Let us know where you found it for future reference.

DIY paint the fog lights yellow
So the Krylon Stained Glass Paint (YELLOW) arrived last night and I thought I'd try to paint the fog light lens since it was high 50s this afternoon. It took me 2.5 hours to dry it up with 4 coatings every 30 minutes. I don't think I got the right yellow shade of the euro fog lights but I can redo it further as it was starting to get dark so I decided to call it a day.

I haven't tested the lights yet but with 4 coatings not sure if it would be as bright as the clear lenses. Even if I was using clear lenses, its not bright as those HIDs anyway. Will revert back to you later I'll test the lights and check if it totally dried up.

Don't know if you noticed but you did a pretty bad job with overspray and covered up most of your front license plate.

Bought it online, just search for Krylon Stained Glass Paint. Cost including shipping is around $15.00

spray paint
Michael's, the Craft Store sells it... It was on sale at the Michael's near me for .99 cents a can.
I haven't sprayed my fogs as yet. I ended up buying some very expensive yellow bulbs. I wasn't sure I'd like the look of the fogs using with the yellow paint. I'd love to see what they look like shining behind the painted lens. After seeing this, I may do it. Last edited by noavgdrvr; 12-08-2012 at 04:41 PM.. Reason: content |
