remember the '83 cab my buddy was selling? interesting story.

I find it interesting anyway. I told him to put it on the net for wider exposure and it worked. He got tons of calls. A guy called him a few days ago and pretty much said I'll take it (he saw the digital photos I took). He asked if the car needed anything. It does just oil return lines , an alignment, and maybe a couple other little things I am not sure. But anyway this guy sets up an appointment for it at the local dealership to get it repaired today. He is flying in (personal jet) tomorrow to pick it up. He says if he doesn't like the car when he gets here just consider the repairs on him. Huh, you said what? Now thats a buyer! For what it's worth he won't be dissapointed as it really is a nice car, but damn anyone else ever encounter a buyer like this.

Why is a guy with a private jet buying an 83 Cab? That's an SC, right?

Yep, thats what I wondered. Best I can figure it's an emotional thing. Maybe it is just like his first or something. He said he had been looking for this specific combination for 9 months. Go figure.

Obviously, he has heard of the SCWDP and will be requesting membership!

Good deal for your buddy. When you said you put it on the net, where exactly?

When I sold my 87 Cab about a year and a half ago the buyer flew in from LA and had never seen the car. Although his friend had looked at it here and I had a PPI done that was fine. Oddly enough, he had never even SAT in a 911 prior to buying mine and he barely fit. Paid me (full asking price) then immediately drove it all the way to LA and had a blast doing it, hitting 150mph in the desert. I had hardly had a call in 2 months though so selling a 911 takes patience since it's not like getting rid of an Accord.
Later,

These cars are a bit special. '83 was the first year of the Cab., last of the SC. I hope to find one of these someday as I think this particular model has a lot going for it (no slam on the Carrera).

The PO of my car had two Ferraris in his garage, but he put about 4 times the mileage on the SC that he did the Ferraris combined.

Dunno if he was saving them or if he couldn't afford to drive them. My guess is that he had more fun driving the SC :-)

Best part is, he left the car outside in the sun all the time and it took a tole, so when he decided to sell it he almost gave it away. I have repaired or replaced all the stuff that was damaged by the exposure, and still have only spent a little more than half of what the car is worth.
He also figured the engine needed to be overhauled, but it only had 100k on it, and just needed a new set of plug wires. The engine is very strong, does not use enough oil to measure, and never smokes, even on start up.

Like they old saying, "A fool and his money are my best friends".

I would tell him to hold on to his wallet. Make sure the guy is legit - and any money that changes hands is verified (IE call the bank to verify funds - certified check, etc)

Lots of scammers talk big to intimidate people. I saw on a show last night you can buy seats on the dead leg of corp. jets for as little as a couple of hundred bucks - makes the guy look like a big spender for a little.

The guy that bought my 71 mustang a while back bought it sight unseen, just 2 pictures and a 1/2 hour phone conversation. sent me a cashiers check and then sent a truck to pick the car up 3 months later.

My car was a "survivior" 26,000 original miles, custom order car. it was very nice, but he could have really gotton taken by someone less scrupulus.

After talking to the guy who picked it up, i found out He was a doctor down south who really liked 71-73 mustangs, and was trying to get one in each color(!) i was told he kept them all in his basement.

'course he was a single guy as well

Must be nice..

Later!

Chuck

Reminds me of the time I was working at the Republican National Committee during the '96 election cycle. While arranging hotel accomodations at the San Diego convention for fat cat donors, a co-worker got a call from a secretary who demanded getting the Hyatt Presidential Suite reserved for her boss. My friend politely told her it was reserved for Pres. Bush (41). Then she demanded the Pres. Suite at the Marriott. Again, reserved for Pres. Ford. My friend assured her her boss would be very happy with the block of rooms the RNC had reserved, as they were $600 a night. The secretary scoffed, "Well how good could it be for $600 a night?"
