Any advice on how to protect these from rust?

I think mine are cad plated.... no rust issues. Is this what you mean by open?

Well typically the old VW steel lugs are a direct fit for the Porsche stuff. It appears newer M14 VW/Audi nuts have different radius on the seat?

If you look at the specs tabs for their various nuts, it looks like the Porsche nuts have a 14mm radius and the VW/Audi is 13mm radius.
