Does anybody own a 1986 Carrera Cabriolet?

Hi... I would really appreciate any one with a 1986 Cab that was built with a 03/ or a 02/ build date including the last 5 numbers of the VIN

We are trying to establish the build date for a '86 Cab. We have so far established that the car has a build date of either 03/ or 02, It has no VIN decal due to a repaint. The VIN's last 5 numbers are 71039

Trivia: The 'record's claim that for N/American Cab's, the VIN's are from 70001- 71986. It appears that the first car's production of a total of 1985 began in 08/85, possibly 07/85.

Thanks in advance
Cheers

By no means am I an expert here but I believe that the last digits in the VIN are the production numbers and have nothing to do with what month it was built

On my car (84 targa) the VIN tag on door jam has the build date separate from VIN

It's possible

Hi Plumb4u2...By the 9th character of your VIN being an E your car for sure is a 1984 and by the last 5 numbers it shows that it was only the 209th Car of the '84 production run .

You have a 1983 year bulid with a 09 month build which is in order as Porsche in those years claim to be building around 150 a month and their production runs in those years started usually in the 8th month. With your number being 60209 that is in order with the average number that they built of Targa's and Cabs.

You wiil find that they were from 60001 - 61???- I don't know the exact total of your model year so I will use 1800 as an example only. - 60001 - 61801

Your car has a 60209 Vin and a 09/ build....If I owned the same car with a Vin of 60157 with out a build date I would need to find a few Vin # with build dates in 08/83 to be able to work out what my build date would be. Is it a 09/ or 08 build month?

For example if someone provided me a Vin # larger than 60157 that had a 08/ build date, that would confirm that my 60157 had a 08/ build date.

Say another was a 60160 with at 09/ build date - Now I would know that for sure anything between 60160 up to your 60209 is a 09/ buid.

In this case the cars Vin 71039 is the 1039th built of 1986. I have seen a few complete VIN# that confirm that it is was built between 04/-03/ and possibly even a 02/but I don't think so by the sequence of the other different Vins that I have seen

You are correct in what you said - By just looking at a Vin# without a build date it is impossible to know the month.

If I am fortunate to be able to see a few more VIN# of 1986 Cabs with 03/ and 02/ build months to compare with...it will be possible for me to actually confirm the month it was built.

Cheers

Ok I understand what you are saying but still a little confused

Do you not have the tag? Or are you just trying to confirm that it's accurate?

I don't know why you have multiple threads going on the same subject, but I tried to help in the other thread..

Check your wiring harness. On mine the date is written in sharpie on a white tag right at the speedo. I've actually found it in several places around the car.

Hi...Sorry/ Not meaning to cause any confusion' ...I tried to change the heading on the 1st thread but couldn't- I was getting little response so started another one 'Does any one have a 1986 Carrera Cab and have had some results from it.

I was under the impression that these type of dates written on parts were not that reliable. I will take your suggestion and have a look. I know that when I had the speedometer out to repair the odometer there was a stamp (ink) that had 86 and below it 03/ I never knew that they put the cars build date on parts.

I knew that it was the build date for the speedo but presumed that they would have had a big run of them that were good for numerous months.

I will have a look at th e wiring harness but would still appreciate someones actual '86 Cab with a 03 build including the VIN's last 5 numbers. Thanks!

Cheers
