225mm vs 245mm fan question

Putting together some parts for an engine build and have a question. I have a 2.4 7R case that i am going to build off of and just want to make sure the outside diameter of the 225mm fan housing is the same outside diameter as the 245mm fan housing that came off the engine. So the question is will a 225mm fan and housing fit on the 2.4 7R case. Thanks

jonathan

The case casting id has nothing to do w/ the fan.

other than some racing engines only '78-79 911 3.0 SC engines used the 226mm fans

So the 225mm fan and housing from a 78-79 SC will fit the 2.4 case AND I could just get a 225mm fan and put it in my stock fan housing because they are the same size???

Be patient, I am feeling a little dense this morning.

If you are talking about a fan housing from a '72- 73 2.4, no. That is 245mm and will need a 245mm fan to match the 245mm housing

If you want to use a 226mm fan then you need to get the fan housing and all the parts that go w/ it from a '78-79 SC including the fan.

You need also to get the 78/79 SC alternator vs the 2.4 one

The answer to the original question is yes, assuming the desired fan is a 226mm and not the very rare 225mm. You can put a 226mm fan & its associated housing from a 78 or 79 SC 3.0L in place of a 245mm fan & housing. It is a direct replacement with ZERO modifications needed. The OD of the housing fits right into the engine shroud.

I recently did the reverse on my racecar- took off the 226mm fan and installed the 245mm fan for more cooling since I was deleting the engine-mounted oil cooler.

Never heard of a 225mm fan, 906 and most subsequent race engines used the 226mm

Sorry. Brainfart on my part. I was thinking of the early fans from 65-66 being 225mm, when in fact they are 250mm
