RSR tacho ?

I saw this 10k tacho advertised for sale recently & it was described as being for an RSR. I don't remember seeing one with this orientation of dial (face) before - is this an original style of RSR vdo tacho or a custom-made version ?

If it's an original gauge what model/year RSR used this version ?

Andy;
Places like Hollywood Instrument will align the numbers any way that the buyer requests. I doubt that that a casual observer would be able to tell the difference between a well rebuilt (and remarked) 10K tach and a factory tach. I don't know how the "factory" tachs were aligned, but I also seem to remember seeing pictures of 908 or 917 tachs which were aligned like the tach pictured. I don't know if those were retrofits or if they came that way from the factory. The bottom line is I doubt that anyone could prove a tach is an RSR tach or not given the ability to get them rebuilt to the whims of the buyer.

BTW: The 10K tach that I have has 5K straight up, but I wanted the redline (7K) straight up so I just spun it in its frame when I installed it. The tach pictured would look much neater in my dash then my existing 10K. I would think that it would be perfect to use in your 'E.

Andy,

While the '73 RSR tach looked similar, it had an adjustable redline ... that tach for sale appears to have been a pre-74 model with a recalibrated face-job done.

My 10K tach appears to be an original VDO mechanical one with the silver center. It has a 1270 ('71) date stamp on the back. 5200 is straight up. 0 and 10 K markings are equadistant from bottom center, with no markings between 0 and 1K. Numbers on back are 230/3/9 and 6Zyl./4Tkt. The early 10K tach was used on the factory race cars, including the 911R, 911ST, Racing RSs (2.7 and 3.0) and the RSRs. Not sure about the tach pictured, may be a repro or later model.
