Porsche Crest Great gas additive

Just FYI

I recently finished doing a major service on my car. DRACO A5OG had suggested to me to included BG 44K gas treatment as part of the process.

It really does a nice job of cleaning the fuel injection system up.

It is not the easiest thing to find however, they have a web-site to help you find it.

I wonder how often I can use the 44?? Anyone have any Data other than opinions? Maybe I should call the company and report back. Think I used it on my last oil change.

As I recall, once a year or every other year. The stuff is harsh so don't over do it.

BG44K is great stuff. I had a mid 80's BMW with about 150K miles on it that developed a head gasket leak. I ran a can of that stuff through it Before I pulled the head, and everything inside was new and shiny! Been a user of it since.

And I don't subscribe to the doing an oil change afterwards either. BG44K doesn't get into the oil any more or less than gasoline gets by the rings. If it is getting by the rings, then there are bigger issues at hand. If you believe it does need to be changed, just run it through before the oil change since they are both done about every 3,000 miles anyway.

Early 2000-2004 Land Rovers responded pretty well to a dose of BG44K, and an induction cleaning for the intake plenum with SeaFoam and a half can of throttle body cleaner on the butterfly. You could actually use BG44K for the induction cleaning (this is what it's used for at the BG certified shops), but it's expensive.

Echoing DRACO's comments, it's pretty aggressive, so using it everyth 3K is recommended. I would also say that if you have a lot of carbon build up, you should manually remove the carbon, not use BG 44K.

Buy it online... on ebay, I picked some up for $10 a bottle, and bot a 6 pack. Maybe it was $15 a bottle, but it wasn't the normal $28.

There is a kit that BG puts together, it's called a Performance Oil Change. The process is simple, pour chemical A into the crankcase. Run the engine for at least 10 mins at 3000 rpm. (I usually put it in at the shop and drive home which is 38 miles from the shop. All highway.) Drain the engine oil while it is still hot. Then perform perform a normal oil change. Once completed, there is a fuel & oil additive that are then used. I do that on every oil & filter change on my Xterra. If someone is really interested to know what the main chemicals are I will find out. I also will put a can of 44K in my 911's tank once or twice a year. Nothing is getting ruined from it and I have been doing it for quite some time. I figure with the crappy watered down gas that we are forced to buy, the 44K will only help my car in the long run.

Michael, thats interesting on the BG oil additive. That stuff always has scared me a bit as running the motor on something thinner than the recommended weight oil runs the risk of metal on metal contact (in my mind). But good to hear from someone who uses it and had good results. I have filled cars with tranny fluid (which is an oil, after all) and run them at low RPM's, or run oils with a high detergent content... but I haven't ever been brave enough to use BG...

Interestingly, I was talking to Mark Akers at Akers in Seattle, and his comment was because these cars us 10 or so quarts of oil, instead of the normal 4+, the oil doesn't even really leave any deposits. To that point, he showed me a couple engines in the shop that were shiny and new looking on the inside that had just been opened up. which is different that normal motors with an oil pan and less oil capacity.

the Performance Oil Change is really only recommended on higher mileage engines (100K+) and is designed to help minimize excessive oil consumption but in no way shape or form is a mechanic in a can. it's only an additive that does what it is supposed to very well. if you really want, Monday I will get you the name of the main chemical in the product. Since my Carrera only has 64K and I change the oil after every other DE I don't have a need in that engine for anything more than an occasional shot of 44K. But in my Xterra, I really do gain some benefit in that it quiets the engine at idle and I've noticed that after 3500-4000 miles the engine oil is draining out much cleaner. I use Royal Purple 20w50 when it's hot out and switch to 10w40 when the weather gets cold. if my Carrera was higher mileage, I'd be doing the same to that car as well.

The star of this process is a product named BG 109. It is designed to help restore compression by breaking down carbon build up without harming seals. It uses Hydrotreated Light & Heavy Paraffinic Petroleum Distillates, Cyclohexanone, 2-Propyloxy Ethanol and 4-Methylpentan-2-ol.
I want to be very clear about this, this is in no way shape or form a magic formula or snake oil. This product does not fix a mechanical problem, it is only a maintenance additive that is designed to help prolong engine life. I have used it in my own vehicles for quite a few years and have not experienced anything negative with my Xterra or my 4x4.
