Ready to rumble

Hi all,
Thanks agai for all the support and insight. I have hooked up the msd and tach adapter. Put new heater hoses on. I also put a new alternator belt on and tightened Dow to 29 ft lbs. oil changed, new spark plugs. Cleaned sump screen and new gaskets and new oil supply lines where required. New air filter. Smog pump filter and per sprayed the spark plug openings with deep creep to help lubricate motor. I will disconnect the fuel pump relay when initially cranking to prime the motor.
My question is this. I cannot manually crank or turn the motor. When I put my socket on the alternator fan housing the belt slips. I.e. it doesn't move the drive shaft pulley. I checked the belt tension and its tight. Maybe. 1/4" play half way down on each side max. I was just going to crank the car and then thought, if it doesn't move the drive shaft manually what makes me think it will turn if I crank it electronically. Anyone else come across this.? And I did have 3 spark plugs removed while trying to hand crank it to relieve pressure.
Any help or insight so I can finally turn this baby over is appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary

Try turning from the lower pulley. If your compression is good, it is pretty difficult to turn the motor from the fan pulley.

May seem like a stupid question, but how the heck do you get to it? The motor is in the car and it doesn't look like any type of socket with a breaker bar or 1/2 wratchet would fit. Please advice.
Thanks again.

Open end wrench. I don't remember the size, maybe 19mm?

Try pushing in (right side) on the belt as you turn the alt.

I'm probably the only one to have done this, but is the car in gear?

No, because it would start rolling as you turned the alternator nut!

Not if the parking brake is on.

I have done this more than once.

If the belt *doesn't* slip when you turn the alternator nut, the belt is too tight. To turn the motor over, you need to pinch the alternator belt with your fingers to make it grip enough.

just put it in gear and roll the car, how much fluid did you squirt into each cylinder? you don't want to hydraulically lock the engine, bad news. Try to turn it over with the plugs out first
