[B]A Bad News Update.... While prepping for a valve adjustment, I felt the engine mechanically lock as I turned the crank. I was able to rotate it freely about 270 degrees. I turned the engine on the stand to cylinder vertical position and the locking cleared. When I turned the engine back to horizontal, the rotation locked again..... Time to map out which cylinder is creating the binding and get a borescope. Many folks in the engine rebuild forums talk about chains bunching up. Not sure mine could as they are under good tension.

Zippy... That is what I am guessing to. I hope my engine pukes it up with some tumbling on the stand, but more likely I will have to look for the smoking gun....most likely with a borescope.

What was your verdict on your Flywheel mine looks the same and is now going to the scrap heap. Advised that taking metal off it could cause chatter. If your buying new what did you buy OEM or a light weight one?

B15 AAL, Machinist noticed that the flywheel had been cut once previously and saved me money by not doing exploratory cutting. He saw the surface cracks as end of life, its time to shop. I am not sure what a light weight flyweel gets me and maybe its a track thing. I am thinbking OEM flywheel.

Crisis averted! I found a washer where the #3 cylinder spit it into the exhaust. I will inspect that valve soon for damage. Wheeewww!!!

Seems like more scrubbing than fixing so far but parts are starting to roll in. I bought a handy steam cleaner by Vapor Clear to help with the cleaning....awesome for detailing. Engine, transmission and engine caompartment scrubbed. I have to admit, as I scrubbed the engine and and transmission I hit the wall and said good enough! Pebble Beach is not calling me and I want to drive again SOON!
BTW I had to steam clean something inside the house before my wife realized it was for my project alone. |

Super clean engine and tranny - nice job. Was the steam cleaner responsible, or was it a combination of things? I just spent my day cleaning the top side of my dropped engine, I'm ready to go get myself a steamer based on your results.

I still used light degreaser and steam and lots of detail brushes.

Smoove...If they rent these units somewhere it would be great. However, I think I will find enough household applications to justify this model. It is dangerously hot compared to your standard household models.
