why can't opc carry out alignment/corner balance?

in my quest to find a "local" workshop to carry out the work for me i telephoned an opc and found out their charge out rate for older porsches is only £10 more ph than an indie.

so i enquired about getting the corner balance and alignment done. they told me they could only set the car to the std settings, ride height etc. mines been lowered and i wanna keep it that way.


what gives??

how come an indie can set up a lowered car??

this is turning into a mission. the indie i've found is 1 1/2 hrs away and cannot give me a loaner.

I'm assuming OPC is a Porsche dealer?

I've had shops give me a hard time about aligning to my specs which differ from their books. The somewhat valid reason I've been given is that they can't warranty the car's performance eg. It might pull and then I'd want them to fix it.

So I've had shops do the work to my specs with the pre-agreement that there is no warranty on the work. I've had other shops align to my specs with no questions asked.

i don't have any specs, and the car has been lowered. opc just don't wanna know.

makes me wonder what specs the indie will use for a base line. they did say they keep a record for future reference etc, but where do they start?

its a real pita 'cause now i gotta do a 1 1/2 hour each way trip two saturdays in a row. and i gotta take the m/bike so my girlfriend will be getting all the benefit in the 911!

sounds to me like you should consider getting a camber gauge, a two gauge, and some string and do it yourself. It really is not that hard.

well actually you should start by buying a few books, How to make yo car handle, Fred Puhn, Tune to win, Carroll Smith are two good ones to start with.

Once ready (schooled and tooled) I am sure Pelican's will help you through the actual effort. Once you have done it,you will see it really is easy.
