ever ship an engine from toronto canada into us?

I looking to possibly ship an engine from Thornton Ontario Canada to Atlanta and wondering how much is involved? Any one here ever done this? What's best way to do it,, airfreight?

I didn't ship one but I did transport it myself and left it there for work to be done. When crossing the border I had to stop in on the canadian side and get some paperwork to show when making the return trip. To prove it was always mine and avoid being charged taxes on the whole engine.

Your experience may vary but in general air transport costs are dependant on weight. Ground transport is more dependant on size.

Fedex Ground might be and option. I've used them for big things like seats.

I did it, but I'm afraid I don't remember most of what was involved. I had UPS act as my customs broker. There are a handful of forms you have to fill out, including power of attorney, and if I remember right the cost was about $150. I think I got hit later for sales tax on the engine. You can get a bunch of shipping bids at a time from some of the online brokers (like Freight88), but you'll need to know the category code for the thing you're shipping. This code also figures in to the taxes and fees you'll pay. I think 'engine parts' is more cost effective than an entire engine, for example.
