System, WUR New Pressure Readings
 

I finally got a new fuel pump installed and just ran the pressure tests over. Need to go to the link WOLDS provided and check the CIS Primer.


System Pressure: 79.5
WUR Control Pressue (Cold(Unplugged)): 72
WUR Control Pressure (Plugged in after about 5-6 mins): gradual rise to 76, then held that pressure next ~4 mins

Couldn't perform remaining tests as car would not start. No hits at all. I'll find a link to diagnose electrical to see if I have spark, etc. tonight / tomorrow before the game.

Your situation is exactly what Warren (WOLDS) had in October 2012. And his problem was fixed and corrected by using the correct WUR plus a TV (thermovalve). Contact him, he should be able to guide you how he fixed the problem.

You could perform your own investigation and spent countless hours trying to determine or locate the problem/s. The problem is right in front of your nose but you don't see it (recognize the culprit)!!!! Even if you have good and strong sparks, this engine will not start or run with the control fuel pressures you are having.

There is a simple and practical solution to your current dilemma, that is available over the counter. Why re-invent the wheels? Warren was able to fix his very similar problem over-night (even less) and drove 1000 miles the next week after installing the 'over-the-counter-remedy'. Good luck.

Yes, that control pressure is way out of spec. Do what Tony says if you want to get this car running. Your cold control is 4.9 bar, you should be around 1.8. Your warmup pressure of 75 psi is near 5.2 BAR and you should be about 3.5 bar.

Could you look below the rubber hose @ WUR? There is a cast number (0-438-140) followed by 3 digits (stamped) and post these numbers. Thanks.

He was busy traveling on business according to one email and no feed back about the problem we are trying to solve. Like what I mentioned to you earlier, I rather help you fix and solve your problem than sell you a WUR you might not need. So the first thing you have to do is test and verify that the WUR is delivering the correct control fuel pressure. I'll be more than happy to test it for FREE. The WUR might just need some TLC.

I live about 75 miles from Gary and I'm willing to help him if he wants.
So a ttv and a good wur is needed for sure. (Some vacuum lines too I'd bet.)
I think he also needs a proper fitting for the wur and the line from the wur to the FD. (I have spares of both to get him going if he wants them)
It would be interesting to see the difference between the US and euro '83 CIS systems, I'll bet it is very similar to my '78 euro.

Update on the WUR-089 test........

Sorry for not getting this test done quicker. I have two (2) Pelican members' cars at my place that needed some work. The first one from NJ was already picked up and the other guy from MD needs an engine drop. So in between baby sitting and doing projects for the wife, the 911 projects come next.

The initial test gave a resistance of 26 ohms. So the heating element is good. Next, the pressure test:

System fuel pressure: 72 psi.
Control fuel pressure: 67 psi. (cold) . This fuel pressure simply indicates the flow restriction coming out from the WUR.

From your previous post:
System fuel pressure: 79.5 psi.
Control fuel pressure: 72.0 psi.

The test was done when the ambient temp. was @ 40°F and using a good known WUR registered a cold control fuel pressure of 22 psi. There was a big difference between Gary's WUR and mine (control) of about 55 psi. And you might not recognize your WUR after I cleaned it. See picture below:

In summary, the WUR has a very high cold control fuel pressure and won't be any good to get your engine running. You could try to fix this bad WUR yourself and hopefully make it work or find a replacement WUR in good working condition or I could send you a loaner unit. I'll be shipping your WUR today before I go for a 2 week trip out of state. Keep us posted.
