80 sc brakes

With a lot of help from this forum I have kept my car on the road. Need some more help. I have had to fill my brake master cylinder a lot lately. A couple of times it was basically empty. I have tried to find the leak with no luck.. Right now it is on four jack stands in the garage with the wheels off. I can find no fluid dripping anywhere. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Have a look at your master cylinder.

Often those cars will leak into the brake booster vac. canister.

80sc brakes

Is there an easy way to check brake booster filling with fluid or do I have to take the master cyl. and brake booster out. Thanks.

You can just remove the master cylinder and then dip into the booster with your finger, a straw or length of cloth to see if it is wet inside. This would indicate leakage at the rear seal of the master cylinder and the vacuum in the booster pulls the fluid past the seal. After a while, if you continue to fill the reservoir and this is in fact where the fluid is going, the fluid can limit the displacement and hence amount of braking you can achieve.

Have you had a close inspection of the driver footwell done? Checked for leaking fluid behind the pedal panel, saturating the pedal rack and environs?

If enough fluid builds up it can get sucked into the engine. I have seen this happen and an engine light and code get set (not sure what the code said was the reason).
