Any input or pictures of the GT3 style wing and decklid from GT-Racing
Hey guys,
I'm thinking of switching from the 3.8 decklid to the GT-Racing Style. I'm looking for any pictures/input on their decklid and upright set up. I would be running a different element from Kognition. This is the part I'm talking about.

I've got one on a car I'm building. The fit was okay, not excellent and not terrible. I had to remove some material from the edges to get acceptable gaps. The worst one was the top edge which rubbed hard on the body until I opened it up. Pretty standard for aftermarket fiberglass, no major rework or anything but expect to do some sanding. It's significantly lighter than the 3.8 wings. I think it's a good part. You can make your own uprights pretty easily out of aluminum sheet.
I'm surprised Kognition is making the wing. I emailed him a few times about purchasing a wing and he didn't have any interest in selling me an element without the whole mounting system, which he doesn't make for 911's. He made it pretty clear that he didn't want to waste time making a wing with Porsche mounting locations or just sell wings alone. Maybe he has realized that Porsche guys spend more money than guys in Mitsubishi's . You should also have a look at the carbon fiber wings Jae Lee (Mirage International) sells. They are very nice and cost a couple hundred dollars less than Kognition. ![]() ![]() ![]()

I looked at Mirage, but I didn't see any wings. All they had under the Aero tab was tails. The weight is a big reason why I want to switch. I want the aero benefit, but the 3.8 lid is very heavy. Do you already have your mounting system figured out?

Mike from Kognition and I exchanged a few emails about a year or two ago (maybe longer?).
The Mirage website is a little outdated. You should just call Jae. His wings are straight element, carbon fiber weave, 60 or 70 span, 9.75" chord (POC legal). They have mounts and machined aluminum end plugs. I've got his 60" wing on my racecar, as do several people in the POC & PCA. I haven't finished the mounting system for the silver car. I have a straight element wing with no mounting provisions, so I have to fabricate that first. Then I'm just going to go with straight aluminum plate like the yellow car above, in a similar position. This is going to be a street/track car so I'm keeping the stock decklid too so I can swap them out if I want to. |
