how do I turn over a 964 engine by hand

I've got a 964 with a 'stuck' engine. it's been sitting for a bit so no catastrophic failure, I think some moisture was residual in the cylinders and the pistons are stuck to the cylinders. was running fine a year ago.

starter can't crank the engine over. I've tried turning the fan while holding the belt. no go. fan's not slipping on the belt but I can't generate enough torque on the rubber belt to turn the engine. and I don't see any way to get a socket on the flywheel pulley nut. it's inset too far and the engine support bar is in the way. and to make matters more challenging, it's a tiptronic.

any thoughts?

Have you pulled the spark plugs, only tops or bottoms, you don't need to pull all 12? You may have a hydraulic lock. If it still won't turn over put a few drops of Marvel Mystery oil in each cylinder and let it sit a few days. Also try working it back and forth, not just forward. ( I know, you're not suppose to turn a 911 motor backwards, but this may help.)

I'm pretty sure it's not hydro locked. and any compression in the comb chambers has long since bled off. I've tried back and forth, but it won't budge a bit.

Pull the upper plugs and give the starter a bump.....if still no go, fill the cylinders with Marvel Oil....let sit for 3-4 days. Bump again.....if no go wait 3-4 more.

No spin, engine pull time.

Make sure the battery is fully charged and you are getting voltage to the starter.

If the engine DOES come unstuck, the oil will jet out the holes. Have a big bag of kitty litter ready.

You can make your own cocktail with Acetone, diesel and a few other solvents if you are cheap and/or don't mind mixing stuff up.

Don, how about a leak down tester in one cylinder which is at 90 degrees ATDC on power stroke. 100 PSI should net 1200 lbs on the cross section of the cyl area so start with the reg turned down.

or, maybe take the a/c belt off and use a chain or belt wrench on the crank pulley. You might cut a portion of an old Vee belt to put in the pulley groove so the chain wrench doesn't mar the pulley. The rear lip on the pulley is thin - fragile.

+1 on the top plug removal and light oil or DW40 in the cylinders. The gorilla way on the engine turn over could be the 5th gear rocking back and forth. If you parked it with no issues then there shouldn't be anything beyond an oil hydrolic block or a little bit of corrosion.

Good luck.
