Carrera tail question

Can someone confirm that this tail is authentic and provide any insight into value? Based upon my research into the part no, I believe this was used for the turbo look option, but it would not accommodate an intercooled turbo, despite the 930 part no. TIA

RS America tail. Seen pricing from 500-1000 depending on demand. We have a complete one with lid and wiper set up available too

Someone told me that the RS America tail does not have the hole for the rear wiper. So, that would be a Carrera tail for the Carrera series. I bought mine for $500.

Porsche 911 Turbos didn't have this kind of spoiler. It was the ''ashtray'' one.

Not ALL turbo's had the "tea tray" tails. The early 930's had ones that were similar to the one you are showing, though I am not convinced it is the same part. See the photo below:

This is from a '76 turbo, pre inter-coolers.

the 930.512.023.00 is a '84-89 base that was used on turbos of those years, the lip however is for those same years n/a.

the n/a base is 930.512.043.00

the difference in the bases is the area beneath them, the turbos needed a bigger hole for the intercooler and so had a base that extended further back.

n/a

turbo

If you post a pic from the side it will be easier to determine what it is

Thanks for the responses guys. It looks to me like this isn't big enough to fit an intercooler, so this is likely not a turbo tail, correct? Here's a fuller photo of the back side.

Ned a side shot to know for sure, but it sort of looks like this is for a NA car.

Here's the best side shot I have before the tail was removed.

'84-89 Carrera 3.2 n/a tail

it's interesting that my copy of PET has the n/a and turbo #s reversed

I just bought the exact same tail on ebay recently thinking it was for an 84 to 89 Carerra 3.2 na. To my amazement I found the exact same parts number as listed above which led me to question if this was the same tail with a different part number.

I posted on this previously with photos and it has been suggested this is the tail for the turbo look option M491 of that era.

See here
930 spoiler with Carrera Rubber Lip

Dimensionaly they look identical to par number 91151204300.

I think the factory's part numbering scheme is part of the problem. It seems to me I have encountered other part numbers that start "930", only to realize they were specifically built for a NA car.

Easy way to qualify this would be for someone with a genuine turbo look carrera to tell us the part number on their tail.

Just checked. Don't think I can see it without removing it from the base.

Factory intercooler is on top of the fan shroud, extending to the throttle body intake on the 930 pancake manifold, so a factory base for an intercooled turbo has an opening ~14" deep (from the back edge by the hinges) in the decklid/base to clear the intercooler in the stock location.

Interesting development in this question.

If you remove the rubber tail you will see the 911.512.043.00 part number stamped into this tail which is the correct part number for 3.2 84 to 89 carreras. It appears these tails contain both the part numbers for the carrera tail and m491 turbo look option and in fact are interchangeable. The 911 part number is directly under the rubber lip were the porsche logo is positioned.
