				Authentic Duck Tail? Please Help

This duck tail is currently bolted to a '71 that has not been out for 15 years. I think it might be real. It is a steel frame with fiberglass duck tail. Please, could those in the know take a look and give me your input. Thanks,

Oh, I already own the car, along with the tail. That passenger door isn't open, it's been hit that hard! Nothing on the front end is salvagable. Hood, fenders, etc. The car was wrecked a LONG time ago.

I agree that it does look to be original, and would be GREAT on my '75. What year car would this have come on? It would be cool to see it back on the car it was meant for.

Probably real. More than likely pre 74 because of the lights. Feel on the back side of the metal frame- near the smaller of the 2 drilled holes in the last picture- there should be a reinforcing plate that the rubber hold downs screwed to. | ||

The original pieces are fairly pricey, 1500-2500dls depending on condition. Probably what you paid for the car. Looks real to me too,

Thanks for the info. I'll check for the reinforcing plates when I get back in town in a few days. I have had a lot of people PM me to see if it was for sale. Surprised me really. I guess they are pretty rare. Were they ONLY available on the '73 RS, or was it an option anybody could order?

Standard on the 74 Carreras also. Does a magnet stick to the frame?

Yes, the frame is definately steel. That was the fist thing I checked. I think it is originally an orange lid, but has had a respray. The underside for sure only has one coat of paint, but the exterior has two.

it is a steel frame. I checked it with a magnet the minute I got the car home. I didn't think the 74 and later ones had lights in them.

ok, it does have the metal reinforcement plates. I can't see them but can feel them. If it is real I think I would like to see it go back on an RS. Anybody know of one in need of an original tail? Be cooler if it was orange, since that seems to be the original color.
