3.2 distributor in a stock 3.0 engine

I am converting a stock 3.0 engine over the Weber carburetors. The old distributor has vacuum advance so I cannot use it . I have a stock 3.2 distributor - 0 237 505 001, which has mechanical advance. Can I use this distributor without any modification?

The 3.0 distrubutor turns counterclockwise (backwards! ) and the Carrera one turns clockwise.
The Carrera has some sort of weights in the distributor but they aren't for advance AFIK. Advance is handled by the DME (computer).

"So except for the big end size, wrist pin diameter, rod bolt diameter, and rod length, SC and Carrera rods are the same?"

You will need to swap out the distributor drive gear that is on the crankshaft (need to tear down the long block to get to this).

An alternative might be to swap the plug wires in the opposite direction...

Does the 3.2 dizzy have a pickup on it? I can't remember. It's a phased-sequential system, so theoretically it wouldn't need one. The 964 is true sequential, which means it needs to know cam position...

Wait a sec, the 3.2 doesn't have a mechanical advance - timing is all controlled by the DME...

Now I'm really confused by what you're really trying to do...

The 3.2 dist. doesn't have an advance mechanism ... or any adjustment, either! It just has a single hole to bolt down to the locating stud!

The SC distributor is primarily a centrifugal advance distributor ... the later vacuum modules had both vacuum advance and retard hoses ... used to modify the basic operation of the centrifugal advance curve. It can be used with Webers ... and IS by most who replace the CIS System!
