Caliper rebuild?
Today I finally started the project to install turbo tie-rods and do my brakes.
![]() My car ('88 Coupe) has only 37K miles on it. The brake pads have been replaced once since new, but the rotors are still original and at about 22.5mm. Since I'm pulling the rotors hubs off to install the turbo tie-rods, I figure I might as well replace all the rotors now too. So far I've only pulled apart the left side. In doing so I noticed the rubber seal on the rear caliper is worn/torn. ![]() I assume this is Bad and a caliper rebuild is required to address this? How hard is it to rebuild calipers? Should I get a pro to do it?

If your capable of doing the rotors and tie rods you are capable of rebuilding the calipers. The rear rubber boots are hard to put on. They harve about 10 small pins that hold it in place. There are several methods posted on the forum about creating press tools using baby jars or PVC pipe etc. My method: bend in every third pin, no tools needed and they hold on fine. Very easy method.

Easy! Did all four corners on my 85' last summer and it was easy.
Do some searching on this site. Super helpful. Rebuild kits are cheap cheap! Good luck.

I tried last year to rebuild my old calipers. It wasn't too difficult until I had to seat the new metal rings and dust caps. I didn't have the patience to do this and just bought 4 rebuilt calipers and slapped them on. I will do that again if the calipers ever need replaced.

It's fairly straight forward. I just did mine during my suspension rebuild thread. If you'd like to see just how I did it, HERE'S THE LINK.
