Post vibration problem in '87 Carr.

Two days ago I was running up to red line from first, thru second and into third. I was going pretty hard and as I was on a bend climbing onto an on-ramp to the freeway I chirped (slight spin) the right hand rear wheel (right hand drive car) which had the least weight on it in the bend. I noticed at each deceleration and accelaration the car kind of shudders or vibrates - in other words the power off and on is not smooth and progressive as it was before. Having said that, the gear changes seem just as smooth as usual but each time I let the clutch out I can hear a sound that I find difficult to describe except to say it sounds a little like someone manually pulling a cable in a fork housing where the sound is the slack taken up by the cable before it pulls on the fork (arhh..err!!)

Also I am now super sensitive to anything vaguely strange, and I'm sure I have few times smelt like a burning clutch smell.

Any thoughts please???!!!

I've driven cars with a bit of 'backlash' in the drive train and it feels a bit like this. I know the 944 guys change some rubber part in the clutch when things go wrong - do the 911's have this same problem?

Thanks for any advice.

Mark

The early G50 cars (`87-`89) did have a weak link in the transmission. The clutch release shaft, pilot/throw out bearings, and release fork should probably be replaced. I think here is even a factory update kit to address this concern. You may have also blown up your clutch, as that will lead to vibrations as well. Just some suggestions.

Worn CV joints can produce a "shudder" symptom on acceleration or deceleration. Especially inner CV joints.

If your CV joints have never been cleaned and repacked, or replaced, then this might be a good time, just to see if that makes things smoother.

Check your rear sway bar mounting brackets. Over time the metal will fatigue and break resulting in strange noises coming from under the car. Happy hunting.
