Hello from Cayman: 1986 911 Targa 3.2: Can someone please tell me how to replace the (Treaded pin) Reference Sensor pulse pick-up bolt on edge of flywheel. Is there an inspection hole I can use to work through, or do I have to drop the engine?.
Your comments are appreciated. Thanks John |

You can access the pin at the bottom of the housing. You can also see it and work on it near the sensors. Make sure that the new pin is magnetic.

Shadow,
Thanks for the reply. I wii have to get some more light for a closer look there. I removed both of the sensors but could not see much initially. There is a piece of thin there I may be able to remove for clearer access.. Going at it now.. Regards John |

Shadow,
Luck was with me today, I did three quarter turns on the cooling fan and on the third turn I have the pin in view. Had to remove the sensor holder, Half of it is sheared off, looks like a pin with a slot for a flat tip screw-driver, with half of it broken off. The remaining section seem to be at the oroginal hight. What is your tought on that piece being enough to be picked up by the sensor. If not I may have to drill it out. Meantime soaked it with PB Blaster and will try to turn it out tomorrow. |

An allen key is what is used to remove it, I think 5mm, you may be able to get a vice grip on it and spin it out. Or with a lot of luck there may be some allen key hole left.

Finally got that little bolt out, had to drill it and use a couple bolt extractors to get that little hard core to give. Waiting on new pin from Pelican Parts. Found a good write up at Dorkiphus.net for the DME starting cycle to use when I get everything bolted back down.
Again, thanks for you help.. |

Hi John,
I was interested in, but could not find the write up about the DME starting cycle, could you post a link, or send a pm to me? Cheers Ray |
