Fuel injectors!

Ok,
The price hit on the 028 150 158 was spectacular to say the least!
I decided to try to see if I could do better price wise. There is Lucas disc injectors available, but it just seems wrong to put Lucas "Prince of Darkness" electrical parts onto a Porsche. That left rummaging around here and on the Internet to try to find a solution.
I came up with several possibilities:
Bosch injectors various part numbers,
P/N.................... g/pm......cc/pm.....Ohms
028 150 158.........179.........229........2.4. Stock
028 150 364........ 196.........251........2.4
028 150 360.........186.........238........2.4
028 150 165.........182.........233........2.4. My install

My choice is slightly richer, by a very small margin. After a test drive up and down the Boulder Creek Hillclimb (Jamison Creek), I am happy with the install, which took about 1.5 hours, mostly removing stuff that was in the way and replacing it.
Best part is I got the injectors on eBay for $35.00 each and shipping was free. Only slightly more than a flush/overhaul from some of the O/H shops. The injector application is for a Jaguar 3.6 to 4.0 motor. A side note is my car idles about 100 RPMs higher with no other changes to the setup. I also have a Steve Wong chip and cat bypass tube installed(off road use only).

Don't worry about the Lucas injectors (I am the last person on earth that would attempt to defend Lucas, believe me)

The injectors are made my Siemens..they also get re-badged as GP-Soresen and Tomco.

I have a set in my 1991 VW Vanagon (different part..same disc nozzle design)..they work just fine.

Which Bosch injectors did you use?

028 150 165 for a Jaguar. The fuel flow is as close to the 028 150 158 as you can get.

Just curious, did you stop using the 0280 150 157s?
I just bought a set, and was going to install them when my engine goes back together.

The fuel flows for the 0280 150 157s are not quite right at 161gpm and 206ccpm,
Whereas the 0280 150 158(stock) 179gpm and 229ccpm.

I installed the 0280 150 157 injectors after my fuel line/ injection upgrade project. My car has never run better. Plugs indicate nice and clean. IICR, the CO measured .5

I am very happy with the Jag injectors. Idle is smooth and clean. Much, much better than before. The price was ridiculous cheap. I paid $120 for all six, free shipping and got them in two days.

Great find, thanks Click!

So I guess the engine would run approximately 10% leaner under certain conditions, if one uses the 280150157 injectors?

Thanks, Mike. There are a few other people in the alternative injector thread running them also, which gives me some reassurance.
There seems to be a lot of incorrect information out there regarding injector flow rates.
Witch Hunter has a section of their site with actual test results, and the 157s and 158s flowed the same, though their tested resistance was different.

Lots of info out there, go to this and more than a few others and draw your own conclusions. Most of the charts/info is gleaned from OEM sites. My only caveat is if there is a "thing to be sold" component beware because motivations can be different. Really only a few items need to be considered, ohms and flow at a specific pressure. My 028 150 165s are working fine and passed smog this year with flying colors.

Hey Click...wasssss up. Been running the 360s for a year...with the weather warming up I set up idle to run too rich...surging a bit...so I dialed it back. I was getting a hint of raw fuel smell from the engine compartment blower area, connected to the exhaust. Nothing when I open the heater vents...soo (vacuum leak probably... Runs rich in winter...lean in summer)
I leaned it a bit and have been running it hard to see if it disappears...
The smell starts a few hours after sitting... New injectors, new fuel lines from Len, no evidence of a leak anywhere....I've read in another thread that sometimes the injectors leak through their core, down onto the heads...Fn phantom fuel smells....

We'll see how the leaning out does...the smell is kinda going away.
