My most interesting project was to replace the main gear shaft on a 600cc single-cylinder bike. My friend came over with it and had the sprocket seat stripped.
The four-stroke had to come out of the frame and come apart entirely. I bought the repair manual and got on with the job. Figured, it couldn't be rocket science after all. After four weeks of cluttering up the garage the bike finally started and run fine. My friend drove it from Germany all the way down to southern Italy. About 1000 miles. What a trustworthy sole he is. After one week he called me up. I was expecting the worst. And yes it was bad. His bike got stolen..... Ingo

Why did you change that to "only" show the synopsis. Is there another place where all that material is still online? Ingo

I've had quite a few, but my favorite was converting my BMW from an automatic to a 5 speed manual. Did it in a weekend, at home, working alone.
Was particularly satisfying because numerous shops said it could not be done, at least cost-effectively (it ended up costing me a net of around $500, after selling the old parts). Was also satisfying in that it totally transformed the car, and helped rid the world of one more automatic. |

Jaycar Sequential Shift Light for the BMW '02.
It isn't quite installed (I have checked it works though) and my friend did the soldering etc, but it works and it cost 1/6 what an Autometer one does.

Warren helped me diagnose a leaky seal ring on my transaxle. $3.00 and an hour later my transaxle was full of gear oil and happy. The other benefit? Oil is the only remaining contributor to my garage EPA Superfund site!
Best bang for the buck and most personally rewarding. See Ya, Mark
