Need Help with Turn Signal Switch

I'm trying to get my high beams to work and have narrowed the problem down to the turn signal switch.

Can anyone provide me with either a sketch or close up picture of the position of the switch contacts when on low beam and high beam.

I think mine might be fused (melted) together... but I'm not sure.

I had the same problem last week, only that my high beam wouldn't come off!
I had no option (besides from buying a new, expensive switch that is

) but to put a on-off button on the **white** cable going out from the switch that activates high-beam. Not the most practical way of activating high-beam, but I rarely drive the car at night anyway, so...

Just get a new turn signal stalk. You can find them for under $70 and install takes under 2 hrs. You need a new stalk. They go bad all the time.

Quite often the two metal contacts fuse together closing the circuit and activating the highbeams. It happens to me and ended up killing my battery. The switch isn't expensive and not all the difficult to change. I've heard of people "repairing" them but it's not worth the trouble and potential for future problems.

There is a skinny strip of soft metal that is pushed against when the low beam switch is activated. This strip gets bent and stops activating the contacts in the switch. It just won't move the contacts far enough anymore.
I took mine apart and straightened the piece of metal and it works fine now.
The strip is about 2" long, about 3/16" wide, and about 1/16" thick if I remember right.
BTW, If you decide to buy a new one contact me privately first, I may be able to save you alot of $$ on the purchase of a new OEM switch.

Oh, and if you don't want to deal with it right away, you could do what I did for a while, just pull the high beam fuses.

Here in So Cal there is almost no need for high beams, except to flash drivers who demonstrate a complete lack of itelligence :-)

That is exactly it, but the one in the picture is different than mine in that the metal strip in yours is not bent like mine was. It is the silver looking thing running vertically and pushing on the contacts at the bottom. Yours almost looks like it is bent the other way slightly, so your problem must be somewhere else in the switch, maybe in the contacts themselves as someone posted earlier. It kind of looks like yours is corroded at the contact points, but it is hard to tell.
