Obviously, the appearance of a color can vary depending on lighting, camera, and viewing screen, but that looks lighter than slate grey. I am by no means a color expert, but to my eye it looks like Dolphin Grey or Audi's late model Aviator Grey.

Slate gray is darker and Dolphin is lighter, the recent Audi color is just a bit darker than Dolphin. As has been stated all these colors are very sensitive to lighting. My dolphin gray 356 can change dramatically with the light.

BTW it is a striking photo.

It's similar to my slate blue '84, but I think it's lighter.

Although it's likely Slate Gray (Schiefergrau code 615), you could check the following as well - Eisengrau POR60/00B and Delphingrau code 610.

The McQueen 911S was Slate and look what the resale was on that! ;-)

Is that the 911SC that TRE built? If so it is featured in an issue of Excellence 4 or 5 years ago. I don't remember the name of the color but the article mentions it. Might ask Dave.

Why is everyone assuming it's a Porsche color? That car is a personal creation, therefore just as likely to be a Ford, GM or custom shade.

RAL Color Chart | www.RALcolor.com

Looks like RAL 7046 if I read the link right on the 2.8 RSR, I found this starting at post #271 of the above linked topic.
