spun out on freeway goin about 70 mph

So a few weeks ago i had a blow out on driverside tire, which caused me to spin on the freeway, at times even goin backwards while foot was on the gas. It happen so quickly, now it wont go into 5th .

I only drove it home afterwards. I was 100 miles from home. Now what type of damage do you think couldve occured during this incident? (excuse the typing i am doin this while working with patience looking at me) do you think there can be possible tranny issues? and suspension? i run 335 30 18 tires in the rear, and the force just pulled it right off. soon to post pics on the damage to the car.

Nostril Cheese 03-13-2013 02:41 PM

yeah, it's possible you screwed up the shift linkage. Having ultra low profile tires probably didnt help either.

kinein 03-13-2013 02:42 PM

what about 5th gear itself? would you think there can be any issues there?

DRACO A5OG 03-13-2013 02:45 PM

yes, if linkage got damaged, it may be out of alignment

LJ851 03-13-2013 02:47 PM

What does not going into 5th feel like? Does it go into reverse fine?

It's possible the vacuum created by your sphincter when the tire blew disturbed an adjustment.:D

McLovin 03-13-2013 02:50 PM

other than the sphinter theory, I can't see how the shift linkage could have been affected.

as far as the sphincter it couldve disturbed alot of the adjustment.

Wheni get home I am goin to post some pictures. I just wondering what I need to have looked at. Suspension? Transmission? etc....

James Brown 03-13-2013 02:57 PM

things shift when sideways at speed, just a little misalignment can cause that, check the trans and engine mounts, if there still there, go with a coupler realignment doubt you broke anything.

Out of curiosity where did the blow out come from? You think you maybe have overlooked some damage to the tire that just got worse? Rubbing? Old rubber? Neglect?

I've never experienced a blow out, and hope I never do.

Been there and unfortunately have done that. At speed and accelerating on a slight curve to an on ramp to the interstate. Right rear tire lost the bead seal. Probably low pressure. 90º left followed by 180º right - then straightened it out just in time for the dirt shoulder. Blew out 3 tires, took out the spoiler which took out the front bumper.

I was lucky - no suspension or mechanical damage.

You were VERY lucky that no cars were too close to you - it could have been alot worse!

kinein 03-13-2013 04:38 PM

Something cracked my wheel. which cause the tire to deflate which cause the car losing control. the tires were brand new.

Jcslocum 03-13-2013 04:48 PM

The engine and trans are rubber mounted so a wicked slide may ba able to throw something out of alignment. If there was also in ampact from the side, that could be a factor too. Which could cause the shift linkage to be out of whack. That is an easy and cheap p,ace to start looking.

911Freak 03-13-2013 05:02 PM

Any chance the tire installation damaged your wheel and it became a ticking time bomb? Seems like more then just a coincidence you had new tires put on then a wheel just happen to crack and you flat spin at speed! Have you inspected all the other wheels carefully?

kinein 03-13-2013 05:04 PM

well the wheels are done i cannot get another set of kineisis. i am about to post the pics of the rim

tire shop issue? those machines can do some damage if the operator is not careful.

LJ851 03-13-2013 06:00 PM

In the second pic you can see localized damage to the tire at the same point as the rim is damaged, looks to me like something got run over and caused the damage.

Nostril Cheese 03-13-2013 06:08 PM

Low profile tires + big wheels + old car. You hit a rock and bang.

The sideways force that cause the tire to do that will also have shifted the axles, trailing arms, etc..

Were you IN fifth gear when this happened?

kinein 03-13-2013 06:55 PM

yes i was in 5th gear, i am concerned about the tranny
