Welcome. Have you been to the early S registry forum yet? It's not just for S models.

A big welcome for sure. A 66 long hood. Lucky you. If you are like me you will really enjoy the challenges of bringing your Porsche back to life. Mine is pretty much done and I miss being under and in the car and the hours in the garage.
Pelican web site is a great resource. Great people with much experience and eager to share.
Same holds true for the early S registry with a focus on early cars like yours. Join their forum.
Get a copy of the Porsche parts CD_ROM (PET) from pelican part #000-043-400-05-OEM $9.50. The CD is full of exploded views and part numbers for everything and will give you an idea of how things come apart and go together. Haynes manual can't hurt. Lots of books available. Waynes engine rebuild book if you are doing a rebuild.
And maybe most important, find other Porsche owners in your area. Probably BTDT. Porsche owners, especially those with early cars, are some of the friendliest and most helpful people you will meet. Have fun.

J Welcome.

as some background there have been very good discussions here on Pelican and over on the Early 911S Registry.org site about this series of cars. Tons of info.

VIN Experts - Do I have a '65 or a '66 911?

Look at the bottom of page 9 and the top of page 10 for a listing of information owners have given. It is more complete and accurate than anything in print or on other sites. It tries to clean out a lot of the information (mis- information) by not stating if the data was by "Model Year" or "Production Year".

If you find where your serial number plugs in it will give a good start on your car.

Polo Red... nice color.
