Cut your own shifter bushings; open source CAD model!
Hey all, I threw together this today:

Btw, from where did you get the design dimensions? I only ask because I've been fooled before by making a replacement part by using a worn original as a template. |

@Corse: It's not a random site. It's a huge library of FREE CAD data, that is mostly cross platform. Other sites like turbosquid make you pay for the models, and most of it is surface modeling that can't really be used to create anything in real life. I don't work for them or anything, I just have an account there that allows people to preview the CAD model was well as download it.
@dw1: I purchased replacement bushings from Pelican, and took dimensions before I installed them. |

What I did at lunch today:
![]() Glass media blasted, machined a ring of aluminum to support the pin while pressing, using the press, lube, reassemble. Can't wait to drive it again! ![]() |

Awesome! What material did you print them from? I didn't think any 3d printed material would hold up well, I made the model more for machining them out of a block of nylon or something, so please let me know how they hold up!
What modifications did you need to do to them? |

It's regular ABS; you can hit it with hammer pretty hard without damage. The material is good enough to print it's own modified extruder gears you see in the photo.
I wouldn't use on a suspension bushing, but it should be fine for this with a proper lube. It's worth a try; cost me about 10 cents of material and 20 minuets of my time to print and install into an extra coupler. I had to reduce the diameter of the cylinder as it was .5mm over the size of my coupler. It's possible the parts you purchased are more compressible than the material I used. The printer was a kit my kids put together last summer.

Very cool idea. I've actually 3D printed a few parts so far, and have been meaning to share them. In particular, I had trouble locating 911-572-260-00, the y-pipe piece that sits behind the passenger side dash air vent to accept both fresh and hot air sources from several sources, so I made my own. I also made a new 3rd brake light enclosure that sites on the rear deck at the bottom of the rear windshield since the upper location obstructs my rear view too much.
I've been meaning to start exploring online libraries of CAD to find a good place to share it. Any reason you chose GrabCAD or have you also been involved with other library sites? -N |

It's extremely active, and like I said, other 3d sites are more for animators and videogame type stuff, not solid modeling programs. They focus on programs like Maya, Rhino, Alias, etc. GrabCad is much more engineering/industrial design. They also have contests, and I won $1000 from them a few months ago.
