Drivers Side heat exchanger

Trying to get the drivers side heat exchanger off, and am having a hard time with the center outside nut, I cant seem to get anything on there to get any torque to get it off, it has the 13mm nuts on there, anyone have any success with a particular tool for that one?

Whoever took these off the last time, did not use the barrel nuts either, so it has been real enjoyable getting these things off, lol.

Thanks for any help!

Swivel Socket

Just went through the same ordeal - everyone recommends using a swivel socket (shallow socket that has a universal joint/swivel attached).

I was able to remove mine without (oxy/act heat and a box end), but the swivel socket would have made it much easier.

Good luck,

Gordo

I guess left a few things out, its a 2.7 thin flange, stock exchanger. I have tried a swivel, in a 3/8 and 1/4 inch sizes with no success, and cant get a box end regular size wrench on it. Just wondering before I go buy anything new what has worked for others to get on there. Stubby wrench, crows foot some how, something...

Thanks again.

So it's a hex nut where it's supposed to be a barrel? Do you have a flex head gear wrench? That should fit.

Have you heated it? I pulled the original H/E's from my 81 SC tonight. Getting the nuts red then torquing before they cooled worked on all twelve.

If nothing else is working I would cut it with a dremel tool. You will likely need to break it with a small chisel once you get a good groove in it.
