What's my bill going to be??

I will be picking up my car any day now with the completed 3.6 engine swap from a 3.0. Includes installation of a new carrera style oil cooler in front fender.

Anyone care to guess what my bill will be?

I assume that you supplied all parts and are only paying for labor. My guess is $2,750. That's almost 46 hours at $60 per hour.

If it included a used motor in good shape ($6,500), taking an exchange on your old motor ($3,000), and supplying all necessary parts for the conversion including the second new Carrera oil cooler and lines, I would have to say closer to $13,000.

Is there a prize?

If my experience is any measure, about 50% or $5000 more than you expect, whichever is more...

Here is my guess, as charged from an unknown mechanic.

Core 3.6 engine: $7500
Conversion flywheel, clutch: $700
Sheet metal, powersteering blockoff: $400
Conversion harness: $450
Fuel lines, oil lines: $700
Fuel pump: $600
Exhaust system: $1700
Misc clips, gaskets, fluids: $550
Labor: $2500

TOTAL: $15,100

Lets see....

It will be cheaper than if you drove up in a "blown up" 3.0 motor and said , "can you rebuild my 3.0 motor please"?... you scored buddy.............

The bill? Peanuts, mere peanuts....compared to a wife with visions of kitchen remodeling dancing in her head...27 years married, and I'm trying to figure out how to handle this one...maybe I'll start clipping every recent Martha Stewart article I can find... "See, see what happens when a woman tries to make her surroundings perfect????" Hey, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it...unless, of course, we're talking MORE HORSEPOWER...that's different!

Paul, your in trouble now! Find a good painter quick to distract her. A little paint here and their and she'll be happy to have things settle back down to normal!

I hear ya Paul, just did the kitchen thing, He!! my house still has the original Oxford Universal stove down in the basement. I'm not man enough to cart that baby up and out, unless its in lots of pieces

But anyway, my new kitchen ran roughly what the guesses for the transplant above were..... but I did it myself and took forever It was one big pain in the @ss!

Good luck on that one!

Juan... wood floors... I'm the stupid F*** that removed three old subfloors to get to and remove the original pine tongue and groove floor. Well pulled that one out too and sunk 3" screws through its subfloor into the joists below... no more squeeks. But the back breaker was in the fact that I was to cheap to rent a floor nailer when I put the new oak floor boards down... I did it all by hand ... and never again will I do that!!

But, man that oak sure looks great under maple cabinets.

Juan? Me too. I don't enjoy writing checks for household repairs, etc. But Cindy's right...I'm a real life "Tim Taylor"...if there's a way to mess a project up, I'll find it. And wives can be horrible bosses!

No woman ever tells me what to do. That's one of the advantages of being single. Being single in your early-mid 30s would seem lame. I thought it would be. As it turns out, it rocks.
It's like a perpetual dating scheme. The dating never ends. But when you're sick of it, you just close shop.
Anyone 'tells you what to do' you just hang up. That's right! Problem removed. Buh bye!
"Aaaaanyway, I've got to go to bed now. Night," and the troublesome female goes home.
Buh bye!
Too much 'tude? Okay, dial in the back up chick. No tude with her, 'cause she's lucky just to be included, and she knows it.
