leak @ AAR hose=what problems/symptoms
On my Aux air reg bottom hose,(1/2") the rubber portion has a tear which is resulting in a leak. I assume this would result in a vacuum leak. I want to know what symtoms I would expect from this leak. I taped it up for the time being, but I dont know how well it is sealed.
do I need to replace the whole metal line or just the rubber? PS: when I remove my oil cap my idle slows down like it should. C:\My Documents\My Pictures\yellow porsche_files\pancake1.jpeg Here is a link with pictures of what the heck i am talking about (its the 2nd picture of the pancake shaped object showing the 2 large hoses) I tried to atach just the image, but it was too large of a file 85,000 bytes but thats a whole other story |

I don't believe we can access that link you've posted. From what you described, the pancake shaped object is the (AAV) Auxillary Air Valve, not the AAR. I would just try to replace the torn hose.

I agree, if it is indeed a 1/2" hose it does not go to the AAR as that is a 3/4" line, also there is no "metal portion" on any of the vacuum lines to my knowledge. I am at a bit of a loss as to what you are refering to now. The only metal/rubber composit hoses on a 911 that I can think of are oil lines. And the only 1/2" vacuum line I can think of is for the brake booster. I guess we need more info.

Here is a picture of the back of a CIS 3.0 I stole from a Pelican Parts tech article. You can see the metal line running to the AAV. The other pancake shaped object is the deceleration valve. You will not have that one if your engine is euro, or a USA model '78-'79.
I think you could fit a regular hose there with some clamps. Rob 1980SC Last edited by 1980SC; 07-11-2002 at 06:18 AM.. |

If the hole is between the AAR/V and the throttle body. You probably have an idle of about 1500/1800 rpm. Your giving the fuel injection extra air. So it gives you extra fuel to mix with it.
If the leaks on the other side of the AAR/V you have a vacuum leak. Which sorry to say, dorks everything up. This is based on my ongoing how come / why for on my 73 914.

A leak in the hoses on either side of the AAR or AAV will be a vacuum leak, and will throw off your mixture.

I like those pictures of the front of the engine. It's like looking at the back side of the moon.
