Advice needed on 2.4/2.7 cam selection.

I have a '73 2.4 w/2.7 90mm p&c's (pistons have a raised dome to the left & a small hole in the center-150hp?), 1976 heads, & Weber 40IDA carbs. Deck height is 1mm. I tried a set of early Solex cams but there is piston to valve contact on the intake & exh. strokes.(app. 1.5mm). Is there enough meat on these pistons to cut 2.5mm valve notches or would using the E cams with less duration and wider lobe separation solve my problem. Also, is there a big difference performance-wise between these cams?
Any input would be appreciated. Craig.
