Horns Not Working - '76 930

Hi guys,
Well my horn worked perfectly fine when I put the car away for the winter, trickle charger attached. Rolled the car out of the garage the other day, no horn. I checked the connections on the horns, cleaned them, I swapped out the round relay in the main fuse harness, no change. Is there another relay? Help.

There is a spring loaded wiper in the steering column that wipes a ring contact attached to the rear of the steering wheel. That contact completes a ground circuit that energizes the horns. Sometimes that ring develops a "dead spot", particularly straight ahead where it spends most of its life. Try turning the wheel off center and try the horn again. If it works, remove the steering wheel to access the ring and clean it up with polishing paper. Good luck.

Howard,
Thanks for the tip. I removed the wheel and confirmed that the two surfaces are in fact making contact. When I push the horn button or disconnect the wire and ground it I here a clicking noise from the black round relay in my main fuse panel. I have swapped the relays with the identical result.

Help, hints??

Well, you've verified that the wiper contact is good and the relay is working. Are you getting 12 volts at the horns? If so, you'll find a screw adjustment on each horn that adjusts the distance between the internal make/break contacts. Play with those screws. If you can't get the horns to sound after that it may be time for new ones. I replaced mine with smaller, louder FIAMS. Made more room for cooling air to the oil cooler. Let us know how you make out.

I disconnected both horns again, cleaned the male and remale ends and reconnected one of the horns. Rather than just tapping the horn button, I held it down and boom, the horn blew. Almost seamed like it was seized. I did the same on #2 and that one worked fine, so both are reconnected and problem solved.

Now if my typing skills was better than my mechanical skills. I knew cutting that course in high school would haunt me later in life.
