Porsche Crest Foot well fan problem

I'm so excited to finally have my own 1987 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa! Have been enjoying my new baby for 3 weeks, and just recently discovered that the foot well fan on the passenger side keeps running non-stop (weak blowing and can only barely be heard very faintly in quiet garage late at night) and drains car battery after a few days of non-driving. I appreciate any advice from the Porsche experts on this forum.

I have tried the following:

1. Ignition off.
2. Both heater levers between seats pushed to floor (off position)
3. Fan control dial between seats in off position (Foot well fan decreases speed, but still runs slightly.)
4. Disconnected fan relay inside rear relay box (Foot well fan still running, albeit very weakly)

I have disconnected the battery until I can get this fixed. Thanks for your help.

If your '86 is the same as my '85, the footwell blowers (aka "additional fans") are fed from Fuse#2 in the 3-Fuse panel in the luggage compartment. The actual operating voltage for the blowers is via a rather stout red wire from said fuse which feeds the contacts of the "Additional Fan Relay", then out of the relay on green/white wires to both the fans and the resistor block via a common junction point. If I recall correctly it is located beneath the passenger side wooden floorboard. Plucking the relay should kill the blowers, and if not it's being crossfed from somewhere. Personally, I'd unscrew and remove the kickpanel to uncover the blower, and disconnect the wire connector. That way you can reconnect the battery and drive it all summer long with no worries. Okay, now you owe me a beer next time you're up Sacramento way!

Footwell Blowers.

Here's the CKT:

What eludes me is the fact that only one foot well blower is running,
as they both have the same common 12V and ground paths.

pm sent.

Good luck,

Gerry

Thumbs up Footwell fan problem solved!!!

Sorry I took so long to get back to you on this. You guys were right. Turns out it was the relay in the front fuse box in the "luggage" compartment, NOT the rear fan relay.
In more technical terms, "That round red gadget with the pins sticking out in slot #2." So check this out, one of the pins on the relay was coated in black gunk and the base was kind of corroded. I replaced this relay and no more constant blower action to drain my battery!

Thanks and I do owe you a beer!

Happy days are here again...
