993 cam upgrade with 50mm PMO's

Hi ,need advise for the following please:

I have a 1995 993 standard engine with 50mm PMO carbs .This car is a Track Only .
Don't have the budget for a full race build to take to 3.8l .

I have shorten gear ratio's and LDS ,but want more aggressive cam on standard pistons .

1.Can this be done and what would you suggest please .

cheers Dave

Dave,

The biggest cams you can use with stock, unmodified pistons are the RS ones. Beyond that, you will need to machine the piston valve pockets or replace them with custom ones that accommodate what you plan on using.

Remember though, running the engine close to and over 7K requires different rods bearings, and some oiling modifications to the case & crankshaft.

Web Cam Inc. - Performance and Racing Camshafts / Porsche 911 SOHC 12v

993 3.8 RS hydraulic cams, $999 for a new set, or $816+cores for a weld-on.

Next route would be to convert to 964 cam towers with mechanical rockers, then cam choice is much wider

The cam towers don't need to be changed for mechanical followers, there are 993 versions available. As Steve says the piston valve pockets will limit the cam selection here. If stock Motronic intake was retained that would be another limiting factor.

Steve / Bill ,as you say Cam choice limited and I wonder if going to RS Cam will give you much more torque coming out of corners ?
