Can you identify a "big port" CIS system from this pic?

Not really up on my CIS, other than to know this car has old style plastic lines. Is it possible to tell from this pic if this is a 78-79 CIS system?

Thanks!

Motor # or Visual check against an 80-83 or flanges

Kind of looks like my 80 3.0 with high velocity(small runner 80-83) in the picture. Check the motor # with charts found here on Pelican is an easy option(preferred). The exhaust flanges for big port are also the thin flanges unless changed by PO. If it is a 78-79 US the look for the SMOG Injector ports (probably blocked off) & long stud AIR Pump mounts on the top side of case. Best of Luck

No idea but that is a wacky looking air box! Never seen one drilled out like that before. Is that an attempt to lighten it? (I kid, I kid...)

You can't buy happiness, but you can buy car parts which is kind of the same thing.

Thanks trond that's very useful, looks like 2R so that's good news, It's a 78 but has the non-original motor so just checking that out. Who knows what else could be hiding under there!

Oh I know...... the current owner/seller is not very knowledgeable when it comes to these cars. He is under the impression the car makes 300hp (it must be true because it's in the description on his ad )

So, each one of those holes must be worth 5hp. And a K&N filter another 20. I'll give you a good deal on the airbox if you want it!

Hmmm.... care to elaborate? I know there are a lot of non-original details here, that don't matter to me or bother me. But I was under the impression the basic body structure was good. I'll attach a few pics.... maybe start a new thread?

Oh and ps it's a non-sunroof car, if you are noticing the lack of sunroof drain?

Look at the engined type number near the oil temp sending unit to know what motor you have. And just curious, why do you want the small port head if you're building a hot rod?

That area is where the replacement quarters line up. And that one looks like it was done by a welder with a bad case of the DT's. See below:

Brain Fart..... misread the info from Trong's post above.

Oh well, in the end the balance still falls in favor of buying the car, warts and all. Even if it's a "small port" motor I plan to go to an ITB setup, regardless, so it's really just a matter of porting (or better yet finding a set of carrera heads!)

And the body? Well, I'll take the good with the bad, I guess. The car is cheap enough that anything I find that ISN'T wrong with it, will be a bonus!

Hi Scott, Thanks for the pic... to my eye the white car is a heck of a lot more "factory" looking that the one in your pic - at the factory they didn't bother dressing the welds as yours have been done.

I take it your quarter panel has been replaced?

here's another example, from another thread of a "factory" job... best I could find in a few seconds of searching

Rust from sunroof drains?

No, never replaced. And the only ones I've seen that look like yours have been in an accident.

I gotta ask, what's up with twisting the air box straps?

I'm guessing that's because they stretched over time and became loose? Just another thing to make me laugh - I am sure there will be many.

I found one more pic (this time of an 18k mile survivor) -

Is yours a Targa or Cab by chance? Maybe that seam was handled differently on those models?
